Purple Pear of Providence, LLC was begun in May 2007 and began selling products in July of that year.  It is wholly owned by Margaret N. Lederer, a graduate of Johnson & Wales University College of Culinary Arts as well as UCLA’s John E. Anderson School of Management.

Margaret had been “tweaking” a candied nut recipe that was given to her by a friend for years.  The final result was the creation of Delightfully Zingy Ginger Pecan Halves and Sinfully Delicious Buttery Pecan Halves that are currently being sold in three sizes (2, 4 and 6 ounces) and three packaging options (gift bag, gift box and bulk). Participation in two area upscale farmers’ markets during the summer of 2007 was done to determine appropriate retail price points, product acceptance by the retail market for the two flavors, product package sizes and suitable packaging material.  The acceptance of the products by retail customers was very positive....surpassing expectations.  In October 2007 the product began to be offered on a wholesale basis to Providence specialty food stores that have also experienced success with the product.  Since January 2008 Purple Pear of Providence has begun offering the two pecan products to a broader geographic area while still focusing sales to specialty food stores and those that prepare and sell upscale specialty food gift baskets.
